Madonna of the Trail in Colorado
Millies found a twin of our Euclid Ave, Upland, statue, Madonna of the Trail, in this small Colorado town near the border with Kansas along current Hiway 50. There are actually 12 of these statues dedicated by the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) to commemorate the spirit of the pioneer mothers. The statues are in the 12 states along the trail from Cumberland, Maryland to Upland, CA. The statues are all 18 ft tall.
The long drive from Dodge City Kansas was flat but told a lot of stories...
The old west was along this trail...now Highway 50 west.
The Arkansas River meandered around the highway numerous times.
And finally a relatively large city where we explored along the way.
